A blizzard of success: JPS students shine at the 2023 State Interschools Snowsport Championships

JPS students at interschools

The 2023 Subaru NSW/ACT/QLD State Interschools Snowsport Championships, hosted by Snow Australia at Perisher Resort, has been an extraordinary event for our school, leaving us brimming with pride as our students displayed incredible talent, resilience, and sportsmanship. Despite rain and wind throwing challenges their way, their spirit remained unbroken, resulting in some remarkable achievements that will be etched in our memories for years to come.

Jindabyne Public School (competing as Jindabyne Central School for the final year) finished second overall among 30 co-educational primary schools from across NSW, ACT and QLD competing in the event. We congratulate Snowy Mountains Grammar in first place and the Alpine School Cooma in third place, as it is a remarkable achievement for our local schools.

Jindabyne Public School students received a total of 11 team medals and 13 individual medals, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Among these results, the Division 5 Female A Team emerged as an extraordinary force to be reckoned with, earning 13 of these medals! Stage 2 students Billie, Aisha-Julliet and Matilda dominated the competition, securing the coveted team gold in Moguls, Skier Cross, Cross Country and Cross Country Relay. Joined by Attana (Stage 2) in the Alpine GS, they also won team gold to sweep all 5 skiing events.

What's even more inspiring is the camaraderie and support these girls demonstrated towards each other throughout the competition, proving unity and friendship can elevate a team to greater heights.

Another notable highlight was the extraordinary teamwork displayed by our Division 4 Females in Snowboard Cross, earning them a well-deserved team bronze. Not to be outdone, the Division 4 Males Snowboard Cross A Team secured team silver. The Division 5 Male Moguls Team also left their mark by winning team gold and the Division 5 Male Snowboard Cross A Team won team silver.

Well done also to our students who competed as individuals without the supports of a team but still strived for their personal best. Of particular note, William (Stage 2) won silver in Snowboard GS MultiClass and Eric (Sage 2) won an individual silver medal in Divsion 5 Male Cross Country. See the graphics below for further details including all participants and team/individual results.

We'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated teachers and the unwavering support of our students' families. Without your logistical organisation and encouragement, this remarkable success wouldn't have been possible.

As a school, we couldn't be prouder of all our students who participated in the championships. Your passion, commitment, and sportsmanship exemplify the values we hold dear. Whether you won a medal or gave it your all, you are all champions in our eyes.

Our students continue to show incredible potential and we eagerly anticipate the forthcoming National Championships in early September hosted by Mt Buller in Victoria.
