Celebrating Education Week at JPS: A day of talent and triumph!

assembly

On August 2nd, Jindabyne Public School commemorated Education Week in style! It was an eventful day filled with activities that showcased the diverse talents and achievements of our students.

A highlight of the day was our assembly, where our Drama Club, Recorder Group, and Singing Club captitvated the audience with their performances. Student artworks on display and the Garden Club's impressive demonstration added an artistic touch to the event. Students recieved attendance awards and Marna and Matilda, our local champion Public Speakers, impressed everyone with their speeches from the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. The formal assembly was also an opportunity to induct Stage 3 student, Emily to the 2023 Leadership Team.

Following the assembly, families briefly joined their children's classrooms. It was heartening to see parents and carers engaging with students and teachers.

Stage 1 hosted a Q&A session centered around the NSW Department of Education's 2023 Ed Week theme: "175 of public education". Stage 1 Assitant Principal, Mrs Harrigan, invited former students to particpate in the session to help our students understand how education has evolved over the years, comparing the past with the present. From uniforms to canteens and the grounds, the guests, representing different generations, responded to Stage 1's questions with fascinating insights. The event was a fun trip down memory lane, as the panel members recalled their school days.

At lunch time our Year 6 students took the initiative to host a BBQ fundraiser for their end-of-year farewell celebrations. Their dedication and enthusiasm were commendable.

Thank you to our Q&A panel, former students, Alex Milliken, Rhianna Burke, Jean Monique Hawkins, Michael Smith and Lauren Sewell.

JPS Principal, Mr McAlister reflected on the events: "Education Week is particularly significant this year as we are celebrating 175 years of providing opportunities to learn, build skills, and make friends for all kids, no matter what their background. A huge thank you to all the parents, carers, siblings, grandparents, and friends who came along today to enjoy the experiences provided for the students by our fantastic staff."

At Jindabyne Public School, Education Week is not only about celebrating achievements but also about cherishing the spirit of learning and growth. We are proud to have such a vibrant and supportive school community, and we look forward to many more years of nurturing and empowering our students to reach their full potential.
